Bio Gewapend Beton

Gewapend Beton started out in 2003 as four 14 year old school kids from Amsterdam. After recording their 14 song demo – Embryo Punk – in 2003, mainly influenced by UK 82 punk, they started playing a lot of shows, quickly building a name for themselves with their energetic performances.
One year later they recorded 7 songs for the split LP with the Dutch band Bakfietsboys, called Nederpunk Gaat Door! After waiting for almost one year, the record was finally released on the defunct labels Pogopunx, DP-or-not-DP and Attack Records.

After lots of cool shows and small tours in Holland, Germany, Belgium and the UK, Gewapend Beton hit the studio again in January 2007. It was time to record their first full length album, called 17 until we die. It was released on the German labels Dirty Faces and La Familia Records in December of that year. From then on things went really fast and the band started touring a lot. The first real European tour was in February 2008, together with Monster Squad (USA) and Antidote (NL). After that tour – which introduced the band to a bigger audience – they did several tours on their own, all throughout the UK and western part of Europe. The first album was received very well by the audience and so it wasn’t too long before the band played bigger shows in Europe.

Besides touring, Gewapend Beton continued writing material with new influences from early 1980’s American bands such as Poison Idea, Bad Brains and Zero Boys. The music is a blend of both UK and US punk, mixed with their own Dutch sound. In the summer of 2008 they recorded 6 new tracks at Studio 195. The songs were used for a 12 inch EP/CD, called Empty Batteries. The record was released at the end of 2008 by La Familia Records and the Dutch label Crucial Attack. The release show in Amsterdam was sold out within 20 minutes, and the people got their money’s worth: the audience went crazy!

At the moment the band is putting all their energy intowriting new songs for a brand new album to be recorded at the end of this summer. Last November, the band already made some pre-recordings of some of the new songs, which were produced by Igor (Backfire!) Wouters. The band is writing material which is going back to the UK punk roots, mixed up with classic hard rock riffs and leads without losing hardcore intensity. The upcoming Gewapend Beton record will be a feast for every fan of heavy music.
