WAR OF AGES Eternal (CD)

07/17/2010 | Man this is solid shit! WAR OF AGES deliver their fourth and in my opinion best record ever. And this shows that the guys have come a long way since their humble beginnings.
The follow-up to “Arise and Conquer” put the guys among the league of best modern American metallic hardcore bands and can compete with the likes of As I Lay Dying (who are one of the main influences of the Christian metal five-some), Killswitch Engage, Unearth.
Opening up with “Collapse” with good melodies a marked Swedish melodic death feel (the slower and heavier parts reminds me much of Colony era’s In Flames). Really a good appetizer to what will come later on. P.O.D.’s Sonny Sandoval makes a guest spot on “Eternal”, a track that ends to be a cool mix of metalcore brutality and some 90’s rapcore new-metal.
Throughout the whole record you’ll get plenty of technical and melodic guitar work with a good amount of shredding. Vocalist Leroy Hamp added some clean vocals (fortunately their not so sappy as is the case with other acts of the genre) that brought further variety to his metal hardcore delivery.
Production very solid and polished courtesy of the team Daniel Castelman and Tim Lambesis.
Epic cover artwork and layouts by Dave Quiggle.
All in all a record I enjoyed much since listen one and which is giving me some chills after repeated spins.
