F.U.G. / SOVIET NUNS Holy Water (split 12” vinyl LP)

06/18/2010 | Italians no good at playing punk-hardcore. They are just a bunch of mafia affiliated, pizza eaters, mandolin strummers and hot lovers.
What the fuck! There’s still somebody who believes this ol’ shit. Of course, those blokes lived with their empty heads under a rock from ages and didn’t get the chance to check out all good bands came out from Italian peninsula since the early 80’s.
Straight from Sicily I got this split featuring two cool ensembles devoted to the cause of most abrasive venomous old-school punk hardcore. And when I say old school I really mean OLD SCHOOL, got it? No contaminations whatsoever or a crossover of HC-punk with metal. 19 tracks barely compressed in 22 minutes.
Opening up on side A are F.U.G. (on the artwork written without the dots…), around since ’99, a name I’m pretty sure you guys have already heard since I reviewed all their earlier releases (which include “I Wanna Eat Meat”, “Can I Have Your Skull? and “Sumus Animalia”) and interviewed them once. They are fast, in your face, no frills high octane punk delivery, play a cover from Adolescents (Word Attack), and try to act like some high educated dudes quoting the 1949 Nelson Algren novel’s “The man with the golden arm” (there’s movie version dated 1955 and starring Frank Sinatra as main character) for the lyrics of the closing track entitled “That’s All”.
On side B you get SOVIET NUNS, combo that feels safe keeping its identity and story undisclosed. The guys unleash 11 tracks, if possible, faster than ones played by F.U.G., with a voice that reminds me of Exploited’s Wattie Buchan and with some bluesy rock ‘n roll thrown in mix for the closing track “Elvis Zombies Attack”.
